Mark Hudspeth Wants His Workplace Smoke-free

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

Musicians across the country want their workplaces smoke-free.  More and more states and cities are offering a healthy and smoke-free work environment to all employees, including musicians.  Check out this great video from our neighbors in Texas.

What makes Texas different  from Oklahoma is that they DO have local rights.  Cities across Texas can go smoke-free and Austin is a great example!  Smoke-Free Texas is currently working towards their state becoming 100% smoke-free.

We have collected several stories, but we are looking for more.  It could be you.  Share your story with us.  Contact Paula at:  paula@breathethemusic.com

Everybody has the right to breathe smoke-free air, no matter where they work!

Matt Stansberry tells us why he thinks everybody has the right to breathe smoke-free air. from Paula Warlick on Vimeo.

Meet Matt Stansberry.

Matt is a musician in Oklahoma who feels that everybody has the right to breathe smoke-free air.

Matt is also a longtime sufferer of asthma making playing in a smoking venue impossible and not really an option. Somehow his workplace is not protected by the same laws that protect other workers in Oklahoma. We think that is unfair. Do you?

Restoring local rights will create an even playing field for buisnesses that want to do the right thing and better yet, let this musician and father of two have a healthy work environment.

Follow us on facebook and post your story about “why you want Oklahoma smoke-free.”

Luchadors support Breathe the Music. Do you?

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

One of Tulsa’s newest places to hear great live music is Elote’.  Libby Auld tells us how much musicians tell her that they appreciate having a new venue that doesn’t have smoking.  We agree and feel that ALL workplaces should be smoke-free.  In the meantime, we hope that you go check out some of Oklahoma’ great local talent at this locally owned establishment that does care about the health of musicians.

Rock on Dwelling Spaces! Thanks for supporting Breathe the Music from Paula Warlick on Vimeo.

Well – if you are from Tulsa then you probably know about Dwelling Spaces in The Blue Dome District.

What you might not know is that Dwelling Spaces hosts live music – amongst other things! When we were there, a new coffee bar was under construction – there is always something great to be had there.

Truly – once I was shopping there for some Toms for my kid and Ben Folds was looking for t-shirts for his wife and kids.

You never know who you will see there. We attached a link to their website. Go to EVENTS and see what they are going to be hosting next.

Thanks Mary Beth for supporting Breathe the Music.

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Thanks Enso, Electric Circus and IDL Ballroom! from Paula Warlick on Vimeo.

In April, we caught up with General Manager Aaron to talk about Enso, Electric Circus and IDL Ballroom in Tulsa’s Blue Dome District and their decision to be smoke-free.

Aaron shares with us that buisness is great. They bring in some great acts and their buisness keeps growing.

If you are ever in Tulsa’s Blue Dome District – this is a great place to check out.

Enso Bar/lounge offers a great place to see live music and hang out with friends. Also part of the same venues are Electric Circus and IDL Ballroom. Always something great happening in downtown Tulsa.

To find out more about this venue, go to: http://www.ensobar.com/

Jimmy LaFave wants to be able to Breathe the Music

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Jimmy LaFave wants to be able to Breathe the Music from Paula Warlick on Vimeo.

Before hitting the stage in Tulsa, OK at the Blue Dome Diner, Jimmy LaFave took a moment to talk about why smoke-free is an important issue to him.

As a non-smoker – Jimmy sometimes plays in smoke filled venues which make him breathe in lots of secondhand smoke.

Studies show that musicians breathe in so much secondhand smoke while playing one show, that it is the equivalent of smoking a pack of cigarettes.

If you every get a chance to see Jimmy LaFave – you should! It was a great show! To find out if he is playing near you, you can go to: http://www.jimmylafave.com/. This July, he will be at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival.
